About
Shri Malaprabha Sahakari Sakkare Kharkhane Niyamit, M K Hubli is one of the pioneers in the co-operative sugar industries in the state of Karnataka, situated in between the cities of Belgaum and Dharwad. The idea of establishing a sugar factory in the co-operative sector was first originated in the mind of Late Shri Mallappa Hosmani of Khanapur, the Chief Promoter of this factory.
Malaprabha Sahakari Sakkare Karkhane is one of the biggest and oldest sugar factories in Northern Karnataka. It is the center for all raw materials available around the factory as it is situated besides NH-4. It gets sufficient water, as it is situated on the bank of the River Malaprabha. The site for the factory was first chosen within the border of Khyarakoppa village near Itagi. The Government of India finally selected and approved 110 acres of land at Kawalikumpi near Dastikoppa village.
The factory initially started crushing at the rate of 1250 TCD, which had been a big capacity then. But, as the time passed away the supply of sugarcane increased. Hence to meet the required demand, subsequently expansions were undertaken by the factory and it crawled up to 3500TCD per day.
